School Information

Emerald State High School caters to students from years 8-12, and also provides facilities for Special Education students via the Special Education Unit attached to the school campus.

Emerald High offers a diverse range of subjects to cater for the varied needs of both its students and the needs of the wider community.

Emerald State High has an experienced team of staff dedicated to providing students with quality educational outcomes in line with Education Queensland's policy framework.

We also have a large number of students doing Vocational Education within their learning and many students are actively involved in the community through various Work Placement, School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

Office Details

Office staff are available to one week prior to the commencement of Term 1. They can assist in answering enquiries, making enrolments and creating appointments with members of staff. The office is staffed all year round until the Year End date. Operational dates can be found under Important School Dates.

Office Procedures
Money Collection

On occasions students will be required to pay money for costs associated with school e.g. excursions, camps, activities/materials for WISEARC. When monies are due, they are required to be paid to the school office at the front counter, not to teachers. Students will receive a receipt for monies paid to take as proof of payment.

Excursions

Upon enrolment a permission form, and medical form is required to be completed, as students will not be allowed to attend excursions without this on file at the school.

Money or Valuables at School

Leave at the Administration Office (in a sealed envelope with your name) and collect before you go home. NEVER leave money or valuables in your Bag, Pencil Case or Locker.

Lost Property

Check with the school janitor or the Administration Office.

Guidance Officer Appointments

A Guidance Officer is in attendance at Emerald High School a number of days per week. Students must make an appointment at the Administration Office to see the Guidance Officer.

Unit/Subject Changes

Collect a Form D: Request for Subject Change from the Administration Office and discuss the proposed changes with the Deputy Principal, for your year level, or the Guidance Officer.

Resource Centre (Library) Borrowing

All students are issued with an ID card at the start of each school year. This ID card must be used when borrowing library books. Your student number will be registered on your ID Card. This Student Number should be memorised by each student.

Harassment

Everyone at the school is committed to ensuring we maintain a safe and secure environment for all. Instances of harassment/bullying are not to be tolerated and must be reported immediately.

Change of Address, Contact Details, or Family Circumstances

Please notify the Administration Office so that student details can be altered.

Leaving/Transferring School

You must inform the Administration Office. Form H: Student Leaving Clearance will need to be completed. All textbooks, library books or materials belonging to the school must be returned before students leave.

Attendance

School Days commence at 8.45am and continue through to 3.00pm. Students should not be on the school grounds before 8.00am.

Compulsory Attendance

Full time attendance is compulsory by law until a student is 15 years. After that time it is not compulsory to enrol. However, full time attendance is compulsory for all students who enrol. Failure to attend may jeopardise Certification, participation in Extra -Curricular, etc.

Absent from School

A note of explanation or phone call from a Parent / Guardian is required by the Main Office on the day of your return to school. If you are likely to be absent for several days the school should be notified. Students may be absent from school only for a reason related to health, family bereavement, or an extended family vacation.

Note: Students must not absent themselves in order to:

  • undertake paid employment.
  • study for exams/tests.
  • complete assignments.
Late to School

Students who arrive later than the stated starting times must report to the Main Office for a late slip. A note/phone call/email of explanation from a Parent / Guardian is required as well. This late pass must be presented to any teacher who requests to see it during the day.

Leaving School During School Hours

Students must present a note from your Parent / Guardian requesting permission to leave at a certain time on signing out at the Main Office.

Absent for Assessment Due Dates

Parents must contact the school when their student is absent on the day a test/assignment is due.

Highlights, the school newsletter is distributed to students fortnightly. Please ask your student for this. Emerald State High can also provide access to Highlights via E-mail apon arrangement with school.

School Bus Routes

Emerald State High School has two companies that provide services to the various areas of Emerald, Emerald Coaches and Knight's Bus Service.

Green Bus

AM: 8.00am commences at Moodewarra Views, Weemah Park, Denison State School, Gray Street, White Street, Russ Layton Drive, Long Street, and Gladstone Street, to Emerald State School. St Patrick's School, Emerald State High School, Emerald North State School.

PM: 3:00pm Run is reversed commencing at Emerald State High School, Emerald North State School, Emerald State School, St Patrick's School, Denison State School, Gray Street, White Street, Russ Layton Drive, Gladstone St, over John Gay Bridge to Weemah Park, terminating at Moodewara Views.

Springsure Road

AM: Commences at Lochmead South then proceeds to Emerald picking up at Evergreen Farms, Donnelly Access Road, Glengallan Road, Big John Road, Pilot Farm Road, then to Gregory Heights via Cunningham Drive, and Kythera Road to Marist College across bridge to Denison State School. Some Emerald State High School Students transfer from other buses at Denison State School to Springsure Road bus which continues direct to Emerald State High School.

PM: This run is reversed commencing at Emerald State High School direct to Denison State School to transfer high school students to the respective buses. The bus travels over to Marist College before travelling back along Kythera Road, Cunningham Drive then onto highway to drop at the following stops Pilot Farm Road, Big John Road, Glengallan Road, Donnelly Access Road, Evergreen Farms and terminates at Lochmead South.

Wills Road

AM: Commences at Bertles Road travels along Wills Road to Gregory Highway to Emerald State High School.

PM: Commences at Marist College proceeds to Emerald State High School to transfer Marist students to the Lilyvale bus and to collect Primary students off Lilyvale bus. It then proceeds up Gregory Highway to Wills Road terminating at Bertles Road.

Lilyvale Road

AM: Commences along the Lilyvale Road to Gordon Road back along Gregory Highway to Emerald State High School where it takes students from the Wills Road bus to the primary schools and transfers Marist College students to the Wills Road Bus.

PM: Commences at Emerald State School then proceeds to Emerald State High School via St Patrick's and Emerald North Schools to collect students off the Wills Road bus from Marist College then proceeds onto Gregory Highway to Lilyvale Road and Gordon Road.

Comet School Bus (P814)

AM: Departs Comet Hall 7.40am proceeds via Yamala, Highlands, Wadeleigh Park, Innisfree, Ramsay Road, Kellys Road, Agricultural College, Emerald State School, St Patricks School, arriving 8.31am at Emerald State High School then proceeds to Emerald North State School.

PM: Departs Emerald State School 3.02pm via St Patricks School arriving Emerald State High School 3.10pm proceeds via the above route arriving at Comet Hall 4.00pm

Foley's Road (P1413)

AM: Departs Ronnfeldt Family 7.50am proceeds along Foley Road to main highway. Arrives at Emerald Agricultural College and connects with Comet School Bus (P814) where students for Emerald State School, Emerald State High School and Emerald North State School board Foley Road transfer over to Comet School Bus.

PM: Students from Comet Bus transfer at Agricultural College and proceed along the above route. Last stop 3.45pm at Coolibah.

Gemfields Bus Public Transport

AM: 7.25am Departs Zircon Road Rubyvale via Rubyvale Post Office, Sapphire Post Office, Lions Shelter, TAFE, Central Inn, arriving High School at 8.21am then proceeds to Marist College.

PM: Departs Emerald High School 3.15pm arriving Zircon Road Rubyvale at 4.13pm.

Anakie-Emerald School Bus Run

AM: Departs RSL Roundabout Anakie 7.40am via Big Sapphire, Picnic Area, Glendon Road, Dunoe, Iona, Wilga Downs Road, Fork Lagoons Road, Denison State School, Marist College, Emerald State School, St Patricks School, arriving Emerald State High School 8.35am.

PM: Departs Emerald State High School 3.15pm arriving Anakie at 4.30pm.

Illness, Injury & Accidents
Feeling Ill

In Class - Inform your teacher who will direct you to the Administration Office.

Outside Class - Report directly to the Administration Office.

No student is to go home ill without first informing the Administration Office.

Injuries at School

In the event of an injury to student, all injuries are to be reported to the Administration Office where the ambulance will be called if needed. Parents / Guardians will be notified.

Excused from Health & Physical Education/Fitness

A note from a Parent / Guardian should be presented to your teacher before the lesson.

Taking Medication at School

School staff must not administer over-the-counter medication, including analgesics, homeopathic or prescribed medications unless they meet the accountability of a written request from a Parent / Guardian accompanied by written advice from a medical practitioner and with the medication in the original labelled container. The exception is the reliever puffer, such as Ventolin, that is included for the emergency treatment of asthma under the guidelines.

School Uniform

Emerald State High School and the Parents and Citizens Association require students to wear the correct uniform. Should it happen that a student, on a particular day cannot wear the correct uniform, then a note explaining the circumstances should be brought to the Year Co-ordinator, PC Teacher, or Administration for countersigning. In the event that covered shoes cannot be worn on a particular day a note from Parent / Guardian must be presented to the Administration Office. All uniform items are available for purchase from the school tuckshop. The tuckshop is open from 9.00am to 2.00pm Monday to Friday.

It is an expectation that students maintain a neat and tidy appearance, including well groomed hair.

The uniform requirements are as follows:

  • The striped green & white polo shirt
  • Plain black shorts or black perm-a-pleat skirt
  • Predominantly black or white joggers
  • White socks
  • The uniform school jacket
  • The uniform bottle green sweat shirt
  • Black tracksuit pants or trousers
Dress Uniform
  • Boys: Grey button-up shirt, grey shorts/slacks or white button-up shirt, black trousers
  • Girls: White blouse, bottle green knife pleated skirt
  • Predominantly black or white joggers
  • White socks
  • Senior students are encouraged to wear a tie.

  • Students may access the School Blazer on official occasions.
